Welcome! Iām Mary.
Thanks for visiting my website! I am a psychotherapist and licensed clinical social worker. I earned a bachelor's degree from Calvin College and a Master's of Social Work from Western Michigan University. I have worked in the mental health field for over 20 years.
I enjoy working with both individuals and couples.
My INDIVIDUAL psychotherapy practice is focused on supporting WOMEN in all phases of life. I have specialized training in reproductive mental health issues including, pregnancy, postpartum, reproductive loss and advanced training in infertility issues. I also enjoy supporting women in other stages of life, including perimenopause, menopause and postmenopause and beyond. I am trained in EMDR, a trauma processing therapy that can bring healing and relief from distressing memories and experiences.
I work with COUPLES who are seeking support with their relationship. Some are very certain of their commitment to each other and through a rough patch, and other times one or both partners are questioning whether they want to continue the relationship. Some couples need help with communication, others with healing from a betrayal, and some couples are feeling disconnected or resentful and have not found a good way to repair. Whatever your situation, I would be glad to support you.
I am trained in SEX THERAPY, a form of talk therapy that helps untangle the emotions and relationship dynamics surrounding sex and intimacy and find concrete steps to make progress.
My approach is grounded in attachment theory, which says that as humans, we fundamentally need comfort and protection from our loved ones, and when something gets in the way of this, we are distressed. Often, the way we interact with others in the present is shaped by the ways we have experienced relationships in the past. Sometimes itās helpful to take a closer look at these dynamics.
My couples training includes advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples, Gottman Level I, and trainings to help couples through challenges with sexual intimacy. My individual therapy training includes a Perinatal Mental Health Certificate through Postpartum Support International, a 10 month post graduate course in Fertility Counseling, Brainspotting and EMDR Basic Training.
My professional memberships include National Association of Social Workers, American Society for Reproductive Medicine's Mental Health Professional Group, International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Postpartum Support International.
āTherapy can provide a non-judgmental, safe place to be curious about how we respond to others, learn more about our patterns of interacting with others, and discover new ways of responding to complicated interpersonal situations.ā
